Genesis 10:32

And by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

For further study - Genesis 10:1-32

God told Noah that he and his family were to be fruitful and multiply and thus "re-people" the earth, in Genesis 9:1. Remember, at this time in history, right after the flood, there were only eight people on the earth.

There was Noah and his three sons; Shem, Ham and Japheth and their four wives. God wanted to start “humankind” all over with the survivors of the flood. Genesis 10 is the record of at least the beginning obedience to God's command to "re-people" the Earth.

We can see the offspring of Japheth, Genesis 10:1-5; Ham, verses 6-20; and Shem verses 21-31. This is the evidence that Noah and his sons were willing to obey the Lord in His command to re-people the Earth.

You may be discouraged in that I’ve asked you to read a record of men and their families instead of something more exciting. In reality, this is a very special assignment for any student of Bible Prophecy. In this passage one can find out how “nations” came into our world.

Notice verses 5, 20, 31 and 32. These verses tell us of how the grandsons of Noah were first obedient and then, “used of God” for the beginning of nations around the world. After the birth of Noah’s grandsons the “fathers” took their children to a certain part of the world and there set about teaching the family a new language and establishing a brand new “nation”. This is the “beginning” of a brand new world.

In verses 7-8 we see the Middle East nations that can be identified with their modern-day names. “Cush” is today known as Ethiopia, “Mizraim”, which is called in the English Egypt and “Put”, today know in this world as Lybia.

By the way, this is chapter 10 of Genesis and these Arab nations are on the world stage. The first son of Abraham, Ishmael, is only born some 500 years later, as recorded in Genesis 16. That information should reveal to all students of Bible Prophecy that Ishmael did not “father” the Arab world.

One other very important lesson we learn from reading this entire chapter in our devotions. We learn that all scripture is given by God and is profitable to us in our study of God’s word and plan for each of us.

Prevalent in His Word is the fact that Jesus Christ will return to this Earth and establish His “kingdom”, also on the Earth. As we continue to study His word, with a glance ever so often towards “current events” we can recognize that we are very close to the Rapture of the Church, an event that could happen today. Even so come Lord Jesus.

PRAYER THOT: Thank you Lord for the record of the “obedience” of Noah, I want that kind of dedication as I look to the future and for His soon return. Let it be today.
